A challenge for you!

So I was browsing other people's blogs during a bout of insomnia and came across this post on Laura's blog. 'Oo', I thought, 'I could use this for a challenge'. So I challenged myself to do the same thing but to use what I found as inspiration for a LO.

1. Collect the book that is most handy.
2. Turn to page 161.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Use it as inspiration for a LO.

My book was 'The House at Riverton' by Kate Morton (quite a good read- but you do have to concentrate). My sentence 'I curtsied and left the room, my heart singing.' Well, clearly it had to be 'You make my heart sing'. And the LO would therefore have to be Connor based :) Last month Connor actually asked me to take a photo of him-very rare- and this was the result. I tried to use the book cover for a little bit extra challange and was marginly successful.
Materials:
Sassafras lass 'Bungle Jungle' pp and stickers
October Afternoon 'Road Map' sticker
MM travelogue tags
American Crafts Thickers 'Hatbox'
Various buttons, gems etc from stash
Cardstock

And then I so enjoyed doing that one that I picked another book. This time it was 'After you'd gone' by Maggie O'Farrell (I seem to remember it being a great read, but it was a while ago!) My sentence was 'Here people talk, but in low tones'. Immediately my mind starting thinking 'low tones = neutral tones' but then as I started thinking a bit more I started thinking about where people talk in low tones- the library perhaps or somewhere else public? And that led me to a photo I took of the leg of a park bench earlier this year when I was doing one of Shimelle's classes 'Here, there and everywhere'. So the journalling reads '... could you tell? How many people have used you as a place to talk, some in low tones, some voices raised? Do you have happy tales to tell, proud parents chatting to their children after a duck feeding session or a man down on one knee with a proposal for the girl sat down? And sad tales? A break up perhaps or people coming to weep over a loss. Forget the fly on the wall; I bet you tell a great story'.

Materials:

I'd love you to play along this weekend and I'll even send a kit to the person whose project I like best if you link by 5pm on Monday 7th September 2009. Go on, humour me. It's cold and raining outside so you may as well do some cutting and sticking!

How awesome! I love your take on "What stories..." My line is "Oh, I know you'll disagree." And I have a great idea to use it with! Thank you for the inspiration!

Great challenge, thank you. My nearest book was one I picked up at the library sale - If I Were You by Julia Llewellyn and my sentance was "Sophie knew not even to bother batting her eywlids and pleading". It made me think that in our family my daughter has everyone wrapped around her little finger, so "Anything for You" shows her with Grandad and cousin playing her game on the beach.
